Two Zuzim?

Walked past a house between Oberhofen and Hunegg. Two sheep approached me to say hello. They seemed friendly enough but I’m glad they didn’t step over the low fence!

Hilterfingen and Hunegg

“Least” impressive of the three castles, but clouds created a suspenseful sky. Castle Hunegg provided an excellent vantage point for some of my favorite pictures of the day.

Oberhofen

Dramatic setting with castle jutting out into water. Reminiscent of Chillon in Montreaux, but on substantially smaller scale. Personally, I preferred the setting of the lesser known Spiez Castle across the lake, which has it’s own marina and vineyards at the base of the mountain.

Which Castle?

Spiez has the prettiest landscaping and mountain setting, Oberhofen has the most dramatic on-the-water location and Hilterfingen is the smallest of the three. But any of them will do 🙂

Castle Hunting

Today’s itinerary: a leisurely lap around Lake Thun. Visited three castles: Spietz, Hilterfingen and Oberhofen. Stopped for lunch in Thun. Hiked from Oberhofen to Hilterfingen and back. Spectacular drive back to Interlaken along the north shore of “Thunersee”. Enjoyed great views of the water and snow-capped mountains, many twists and turns and a few passages through some rock caves! See pictures in the posts above and watch driving video here.
